The dead zone has lost all life form (plants and animals) because of the lack of oxygen, which has been depleted by the Mississippi runoff. In that area, mainly around Louisiana, is where the US gets 30% of its seafood from. The dead zone coupled with wetland degradation, pollution and oil rigs that percentage is declining.
