Although the number of birds killed per year by wind farms is relatively low when compared to other sources, there are some farms that are starting to use radar to protect birds. Also, the newer and larger turbines do not kill as many birds as the faster moving older versions. However, there are some farms that are begging to use the radar technology but I do not believe that is has put into practice in that many farms yet. The Peñascal wind farm in Texas implemented them last year. When perfected, this will greatly reduce the number of birds killed and allow for future development of wind farms.
