A hen (female chicken) will lay one egg per day until several are in her nest, than she will sit on the eggs until they hatch (this usually lasts 3 weeks).
During winter time, a hen will not lay as many eggs or stop laying eggs altogether because the cold weather decreases the chicks’ chances for survival.
It depends on the type of egg. I mean table egg or fertilised egg. It takes a hen about one day or more to lay a fertilised egg while it takes fewer hours to lay a table egg. Remember that a fertilised egg comes as a result of mating of the hen by a cock (male fowl) but that of table egg comes through hormonal action as a reult of the feed.
