How many different types of power plants do we use in America?

The different types of powerplants include: coal, petroleum, natural gas, nuclear, geothermal, wind, solar thermal, hydroelectric dams and biomass.  The Wikipedia article does a good job of breaking the power plants down into fuel type and “prime mover”, meaning whether the fuel burned creates steam, gas, etc.  People tend to be most curious about the fuel type as this determines what the byproducts are.
