    There are nine subspecies of tigers, three of which now are extinct.

    There is only one extant species of Tiger but there are 7 extant subspecies (and 2 more extinct subspecies) The following is a list of the extant subspecies. Bengal, Indochinese, Malayan, Sumatran, Siberian, South China (although this species may be extinct in the wild already).
