How many different invertebrates are there?

Too many to count.  Invertebrates are simply any animal which does not have a spinal column; as a result, they make up 97%-98% of all animals.  They include slugs, spiders, crustaceans, octopi, worms, claims, snails and coral to name a few.  Because we do not even have a solid grasp on how many species there are on Earth, we don’t know how many are invertebrates either; however, the International Union for Conservation of Nature‘s 2010 Red List puts the number at 1.3 million.
