As of 2011, 1253 different species of birds are on the endangered species list.   These are further broken down into the categories of Extinct in the Wild (4 species), Critically Endangered (189 species), Endangered (381 species), and Vulnerable (683).   The biggest threats to most of the birds are spreading agriculture, destruction and conversion of their habitats, and invasive predator species.   It is estimated that 3 species have gone extinct since 2000.
