    There are five or six plants in Australia, and many more mines that either send the coal to the plants or export the coal to Asia. 75% of the coal mines in Australia is exported to Asia. Coal provides for 85% of Australia’s energy production. In the fiscal year of 2008 to 2009, 487 million tonnes of coal were mined and 261 million tonnes were exported.
