There are no global statistics that I could find about the number of clothes recycled yearly. However, the UK sorts about 250,000 metric tons of clothing, with 10% of that being actual waste. 50% of the clothes are worn again in the UK and developing countries. A quarter of the clothes are made into new clothes and 15% of the clothes are used again as rags. In the U.S., 2.5 billion pounds of textiles are recycled, representing 10 pounds for every person in the U.S. Almost half of the textiles are donated to charities, which sell them or give them away. About 61% of all recovered clothes are donated to foreign countries.
