Last November, the Venezuelan government announced plans to replace 74 million incandescent light bulbs with CFLs. That’s almost three light bulbs for every citizen. The decision is part of an effort to solve Venezuela’s growing electricity crisis. I can’t find any information on how many bulbs they’ve switched so far, but as of this March the process was still going on. The bulbs are given out for free to citizens by soldiers and local volunteers.
