Deer-related car accidents claim lives and cost insurance companies over a billion dollars a year. Many hunters advocate hunting deer in the name of road safety. Some reflectors that work with car headlights have been set up on the sides of some highways to prevent deer from crossing the roads.
An estimated 1.5 million drivers hit deer every year, causing $1.1 billion in damage. The state with the highest frequency of this occurrence is Pennsylvania.
Of those 1.5 million who hit deers, 25,000 are injured and 200 are killed every year.
