Good question, Adam Pipkins. I found a couple different sources saying slightly different things. Basically, it looks like the average American drinks more than 50 gallons of soft drinks a year. That equates to about 2 cans a day.

On a different but related note, the highest consumption recorded is in males between the ages of 12 and 29. They average about a half gallon each DAY which equals about 160 gallons a year.
According to the National Soft Drink Association (who knew there was such a thing!) America’s consumption of soft drinks has doubled since the 1970’s for females and tripled for males to the numbers that jeffb notes in his post.
