Not much data exists on bobcats’ exact numbers in the United States.  However, their populations are thought to be increasing.  Bobcats inhabit each of the 48 states except Delaware, and populations are thought to be increasing or stable in 40 states, and with 6 states unable to submit sufficient data.

According to Defenders of Wildlife, there are approximately 725,000-1,020,000 bobcats in the world. In 1980, it was estimated that the United States bobcat population was between 725,000 and 1 million. There are also bobcats in Mexico, but that number is not known.
