As of 2010, twenty large companies have bought and tested the Bloom Box, a power plant on a personalized scale. These companies include FedEx, Google, Wal-Mart, and eBay. The cost was $700-800,000, but with government subsidies, the companies only had to pay half of that amount. The makers of the Bloom Box hope to get the price down to a reasonable amount for consumers in the future. Currently, they believe customers will consist of electric companies, who will then dole out the use of these boxes to individual households.
