According to a 2008 article posted on ABC’s website, there are about 20 million mattresses thrown out every year in the United States.
In order to reduce waste, mattresses can be reused or recycled.
While mattress recylcling is a new concept, there are several facilities that accept mattresses for recycling. Some can recycle over 90% of materials in the mattress. Some mattress outlets or furnishing stores will accept worn-out mattresses for recycling. If the mattress isn’t too worn out, it is still legal in some states to donate them to charity.
