The Chevy Volt uses one battery, but also an electric motor. The battery stores power by means of plugging it into an outlet. The battery lasts about 40 miles before the on-board gas (E85) generator takes over to continue use. Primarly, the Volt runs off the electric motor. Chevy Volt’s extended range electric car goes on sale November 2010.
There is one lithium-ion battery pack in the Chevy Volt. However, in the battery pack there are more than 200 battery cells arranged parallel to each other, while being monitored by a computer.
