Over the span of the life of the Earth, many species have become extinct due to climate change. One example are the big Ice Age mammals, which occured about 10,500 years ago. Learning about how past species have become extinct helps us in our current predicament. Conservation biology is undergoing vast amounts of research in order to discover how and why species go extinct and what humans can do to help.
