According to Adventurewomen.com, there are more than 200,000 species of animals, insects and plants on Madagascar. No one knows for sure exactly how many species of animals there are specifically. But one cool thing is that between 75 and 80% of the species on Madagascar cannot be found anywhere else. Wildmadagascar.org has some really awesome pictures of some of the animals unique to Madagascar.
A species count was made between 1992-2002 by EarthTrends. This survey found: 141 mammals, 172 birds, 381 reptiles, 217 amphibians, and 390 different fish species. The survey also recorded over 9,500 different species of plants.
