How many alligators are farmed out of Louisiana every year?

Louisiana has the highest alligator population, estimated around two million.  According to the Louisiana Alligator Advisory Council, “Louisiana now has an alligator egg collection program consisting of the collection of over 300,000 eggs which are valued at over $1.8 million annually and an alligator farming industry that harvests 140,00-170,000 alligators valued at over $12,000,000 annually.”

It seems the value placed on alligators is high enough to stimulate the economy, so their are incentives to help maintain the populations of alligators in Louisiana.  A more focused effort has been placed on taking care of their wetlands due to their value as a natural resource.
