How many acres of forest were cut down to build the city of Atlanta?

Just between the years of 1973 and 1992, 380,000 acres of forest was cut down for the further development of suburban and commercial growth of Atlanta. Atlanta’s weather patterns have perhaps reflected the destruction of the natural environment, with huge thunderstorms believed to be a result of the precipitated heat caused by a decrease of forest and increase in traffic.
