In 2005, 786 bicyclists died in the US. It is unclear just how many minor injuries come about riding bicycles, for when I first learned to ride I got injured regularly! According to the citation below, you are much more likely to get injured riding a bike, than driving in a car. However, these risks are outweighed by 20:1 when comparing the years gained through the health benefits of cycling to the years lost due to deaths.
