The U.S. Apollo missions were the only missions from any nation to set foot on the moon. The 6 Apollo missions that successfully landed on the moon were Apollo 11,12,14,15,16, and 17. These 6 missions totaled 256.5 hours on the moon. The mission with the shortest surface duration was Apollo 11 with 2.5 hours and Apollo 17 had the longest surface duration with 75 total hours.
Two stages had to be completed in the process: the descend and ascend. The descent allowed the engine used to land on the moon. In the first mission, it took approximately six and a half hours to complete this. Once they were all set for walking on the moon, the crew spent a total of two and a half hours on the moon’s surface.
