The length of the Iditarod is 1,049 miles, symbolic of Alaska’s inclusion into the union as the 49th state. However, the distance of the race is not set, and changes every year based on conditions, and is frequently rounded to either 1,050, 1,100, or 1,150 miles.
The Iditarod is over 1150 miles and teams cover the distance in 10-17 days.
