It depends on whom you ask. This source says years but doesn’t indicate the exact time frame. However, the article implies that oil from the Exxon Valdez is still present even 20 years later. 20,000 gallons of oil is still trapped in the beaches so that suggests it may take a while to be cleaned or it may NEVER happen at all.
The oil spill itself should take about 4-6 weeks to clean up after the well is sealed. The aftereffects on the environement, however, may last years.
