Otters have been hunted for their pelts for many centuries in America; additionally as they are fun to watch, they have been observed extensively. Biologists have known Sea Otters to use various tools to aid them in their search for food since they were first observed.
The species was first described by Georg Steller in 1751 as Linnaeus in his work Systema Naturae.
