How long have we had programmable thermostats?

Honeywell has offered programmable thermostats for over 100 years now, with an early example dating back to 1906. The program was rudimentary, set by a user at night to a lower temperature and raised in the morning by a clock, but essentially provided the same basic function as the much more advanced thermostats available today.
