    The first bicycle was invented by the Frenchman Monsieur Sivrac in the 1790’s, it lacked the ability to steer and had no pedals. The next step was the German Draisienne made by the Baron von Drais in 1817, though it still had no pedals it could be steered. The first steerable bicycle with pedals was invented in 1839 by Kirkpatrick Macmillan, an Englishman. People have been riding bicycles of one sort or another since around 1800.
