How long have we been raising tuna in large nets in the ocean?

Raising tuna  is actually a fairly recent development. Almost all fish farming is actually of molluscs, seaweed, and cyprinids like carp and cichlids like tilapia, which are all fairly adaptable species. Large carnivorous fish like tuna are much harder to farm correctly. Japan is perhaps the most advanced in studying how to farm tuna, with Australia coming in second. In 2009 the first US mariculture farm was approved in Hawaii
