How long has the United States been producing E85 gasoline?

The United States has been mass producing E85 since 1996.  Though the United States has been using fuel blends since the production of the 1908 model T (which could run off of either ethanol or gasoline), producers haven’t traditionally made fuel blends as high as 85% ethanol.  The first car that could run off of E85 ethanol was the 1996 Ford Taurus.  The production of this car created a market for the E85 fuel.
