The United States has been mass producing E85 since 1996. Though the United States has been using fuel blends since the production of the 1908 model T (which could run off of either ethanol or gasoline), producers haven’t traditionally made fuel blends as high as 85% ethanol. The first car that could run off of E85 ethanol was the 1996 Ford Taurus. The production of this car created a market for the E85 fuel.
