How long has the Terrapin been on the endangered species list?

The Terrapin is not endangered, it is considered “near threatened.” They would have to become conservation dependent then endangered before being placed on the endangered species list. At this time, scientists are working to make it so that doesn’t happen.

The diamondback terrapin has been near endangered as recently as 2006, but recent efforts at the University of Alabama Birmingham have reversed the declining trend of the species’ population. The species is threatened mainly by raccoons and crab traps.
