How long has the technology been around for high speed rail?

    Technology for high-speed rail is at least as old as the shinkansen or bullet train in Japan. Japan was the first country to build dedicated rail lines for high-speed trains. The first shinkansen track started construction in 1959 and was opened in 1964.
