    To be honest, pollution has been a problem ever since the Industrial Revolution. The advent of machines, factories, and mass production ushered man into a new age that also consisted of smoke from huge chimneys and poisonous chemicals to produce. Granted, we have made leaps and bounds in reducing pollution from industry and vehicles, and will probably continue to do so into the future. So if you count backwards to the first Industrial Revolution in Europe, we have had pollution problems for roughly 200 years.
