Since the Industrial Revolution in the 1800s, when we started releasing greenhouse gasses into the atomosphere. Scientists have been warning of the effects of CO2 emissions since 1897 and have presented evidence of its existence since the 1930s. However, widespream mainstream awareness and discussion of the issue is more recent, going back to about the 1970s when the first Earth Day was held.
