THE FIRST ARTICLE COVERS A NICE STORY ABOUT A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT’S EXPERIMENT THAT PROVED THE MYTH THAT GOLDFISH HAS A MEMORY SPAN OF THREE SECONDS IS FALSE. GENERALLY, FISH HAVE A MEMORY SPAN OF SEVERAL MONTHS, WHICH IS BETTER THAN MINES SOMETIMES!
Many people are under the impression that goldfish have a three second memory. Research shows that this is a myth. Scientists from the Technion Institute of Technology tested memories of fish. They played a sound before the fish were fed, and soon, the fish associated the sound with food. The scientists released the fish into the wild and four or five months later, the sound was played and the fish returned. This study shows that fish have a memory span of at least 5 months.
