How long does it take river rocks to get smooth?

Nature’s elements such as wind, rain, water currents, sand and grit slowly scratch, wear down, and shape stone. River beds generally only tumble rocks when they’re flooded (as opposed to the continuous stirring of a rock tumbler). That said, nature takes years to make rocks smooth.
