How long does it take to recover from a second degree burn?

It all depends on the severity of the second degree burn. A second degree burn involves severe damage to the epidermis, the outer most layer of skin. If there is only superficial damage, the burn should only take about 1-2 weeks to heal, and leave only minimal scarring. However, if the burn is deeper and bordering on a third degree burn, it could take as long as 4-10 weeks to heal entirely, and leave more prominent scarring.
