This depends on the type and size of the solar facility in question, but a good example of how long it might take to get a solar farm up and running is provided by the Solana Generating Station – a large solar farm being built by Spanish-based Abengoa Solar in Arizona. Abengoa announced its plans to build the facility in 2008, and projected that it could be producing solar-generated electricity at Solana as soon as the year 2011. At full capacity, the station will be able to supply about 70,000 homes with energy.
