How long does it take a paper bag to break down in the landfill?

Because of the way modern day landfills are designed, they may never break down completely. Paper makes up nearly half of all waste in landfills and does not break down efficiently. Because landfills are purposely isolated from air and water to prevent air and ground water pollution, products that may normally biodegrade from natural conditions often take much longer to break down. The best solution is to bring your own bags to the grocery store or recycle paper bags as often as possible.
