Under perfect conditions, mold can thrive. The requirements include having a source of spores, suitable temperatures, moisture, and appropriate food containing carbon atoms, therefore mold growth is dependent upon these factors. It is hard to pin down the rate of growth as it may flourish on a certain medium, moisture levels can change rapidly, etc. Because mold spores can be everywhere, growth is essentially exponential.
If you’re referring to mold growth after a leak:
In “ideal” conditions, mold takes 24 to 48 hours to grow. However, it may take anywhere from one to two weeks for the mold to become visible as spots on drywall or carpet.
