It depends on the process you use to desalinate water. Some processes are more efficient than others. I’ve found a prototype online that researchers tested last October. It’s main purpose would be to provide relief during post disaster situations. 1600 of the units they’ve tested could produce about 15 liters of water in one hour, and it would be driven completely by gravity. This is not the most efficient method to date, but it is convenient.
