It is recommended that a child be started on solid foods anywhere from 4 to 6 months of age. However, aside from the age of the baby, the baby should also be able to sit up, turn his/her head away, and make chewing motions before being ready to be fed solid foods. In addition, babies should also be over the “extrusion reflex,” which makes them spit up liquid.
