Hens lay many eggs, so many that it has become a thriving business. The average egg takes approximately 21 days to hatch, dependent upon the temperature of the incubation. An egg typically needs to be kept at 99 degrees in order to hatch properly. Only eggs that have been fertilized, however, will ever hatch. All commercialized eggs are unfertilized.
