Bamboo will take 3 to 6 years before it is ready to harvest. This is because bamboo can grow up to 4 feet a day. Once it is tall enough, it can be cut leaving the roots so more bamboo can grow in its place, just like mowing a lawn. However, some very in demand bamboo comes from the rainforest where bamboo plants flower every 30 to 120 years. It is difficult to maintain their population if they are cut so often before flowering and spreading their seed.
