The most common type of fishing line can take a hundreds years to break down. The lines are usually made of various types of polymers which take a very long time to break down. There are a few brands out there that produce biodegradable fishing lines but because of pricing they have not gained much attention. Recycling programs have been launched across the country in hopes of reducing the amoung of line left polluting water bodies.
