How long does bioplastic take to break down?

Depending on which biological compounds it was made from (and the company which produces it) bioplastic products can take between 2-12 months to breakdown.

There is a lot of variety because bioplastics can be made from many different biological compounds, and the amount of bioplastic can also make a difference (larger amounts take longer to decompose.)

Depending on the type and brand, entirely bio-degradable plastics usually break down completely in a few months to a few years. Be careful though, many ‘biodegradable plastics’ have green-washed labels and can really take up to one thousands years to fully decompose because they are not made entirely of true biodegradable plastics.
