By electric cars do you means hybrids or cars powered exclusively by electricity? Electric cars have been prevented from gaining a foothold in the market for about the past ten years (and there’s a great documentary about it called “Who Killed the Electric Car?”). Major car companies only briefly manufactured them in the 1990s and then withdrew them from the market, in many cases, destroying them due to mark pressures and the cost of production. So there’s very few electric cars actually in use in America, and it will probably be a long time before car manufacturers transition from hybrids to fully electric vehicles. Hybrids, however, are becoming increasingly popular — there have already been over a million hybrids sold in the US.
