How long do you have to live off the grid to pay for the changes you would have to make to your house?

My monthly electric bill is around $80. That comes to $960 per year. If I wanted to power my house with solar – it would cost about $20,000 (not including maintainence, installation, or energy storage components); so if instead of paying my electric bill I paid the same rate on a zero interest loan for those solar panels, it would take a little over 20 years to pay them off.
