Whale gestation periods vary by species and range between 9 and 18 months.
Gestation period, or the amount of time that the mother carries the baby from conception to birth, varies between species. For orca whales (killer whales) this period is believed to be between 12-16 months. For gray whales it is about 13.5 months, and for a humpback whale it is 12 months. These are just a few examples, but it is clearly a very long time that they spend pregnant!
