The average lifespan of a wild gorilla is 35 years, but they can live to over 50 years of age in captivity.

A silverback is just an alpha male of a gorilla group.

A silverback gorilla is the leader of the gorilla troop. Males get a silver color when they become adults at 13 years of age. Gorillas typically live 25-35 years. Some reach their 40s, especially if they live in captivity and especially if they’re a female. The oldest gorilla was a male named Massa who lived to be 54 years old.
