The life of a star is directly related to it’s mass. Large stars live much shorter lives than average size stars like our sun. Stars that are ten times the size of our sun will last about 100 million years, while stars about the size of the sun will last upwards of 13 billion years (give or take). While we obviously can’t know for sure the life of a star, there are some very advanced formulas accounting for mass, composition of stars etc. that can give us these rough numbers.
